300,000 Streets - Regen Melbourne

Streets make up a huge percentage of our shared, public space, particularly in built up areas, but we use them primarily for transport and parking.

What would it look like if streets better supported the surrounding communities? This is the question that Regen Melbourne is asking, having launched a new mission called 300,000 Streets

Following on from its 2024 report on regenerative streets, Regen Melbourne suggests that the historical design of Melbourne’s 300,000 streets has led to a range of unintended, negative impacts on the environment, our health and day-to-day lives. But at the same time, these streets have massive, untapped potential if only we imagine them differently - green spaces that encourage social connection, community and sharing, while balancing the transport needs of all.

To realise this vision, a different approach and system is required, and for this Regen Melbourne has created an impressive framework, along with a diverse group of partners - including Better Streets!

Better Streets is excited to be a part of this amazing collective hoping to transform the liveability of Melbourne’s streets. If you’re a Melbourne local or interested in following the progress, you can sign up for the 300,000 Streets Newsletter.
